Track Championship at The Hill; Feature Win #7 of 2019 at Luxemburg

Coming into last weekend, we had a 17 point lead heading into Championship Night at The Hill Raceway. After winning our heat race, we knew that all we had to do was stay out of trouble and we would secure our 2nd track championship. Starting 10th, we made a few passes and settled behind Dennis Miesler midway through the feature before challenging for the 5th spot. We were unable to make the pass and fell back a spot at the end, but our 7th place finish was more than enough to crown us the 2019 track champions!

This past Friday, we went to Luxemburg Speedway for a non-points night which utilized the draw/redraw format. We only had a total of 7 sportmods enter for the night, and a lot of rainfall overnight on Thursday made for a very heavy track in the feature. I started 5th on the grid and challenged for 3rd in the early laps. After contact with a few cars, we went under caution and got our spot back after a tapout from Brandon Kaye. We were able to make the pass for 3rd on the ensuing restart and then took the lead on a later restart and never looked back, capturing our 7th feature win of the season.

On Saturday, we went back up to The Hill for another non-points draw/redraw event. We drew badly for the heat race and were only able to get up to 5th, missing the invert and setting us up 15th on the starting grid for the feature.

After a scratch, we moved into the 14th spot to start the feature and worked our way into the top 10 before a red flag stopped the action as a part of the frontstretch fence was taken down. When we resumed, another red flag would fly as several cars were involved in a pileup on the frontstretch. We benefitted from that incident and moved all the way up to 5th on the ensuing restart. I got a good run through the middle and rocketed to the 2nd spot, hoping to challenge for the lead as the laps wound down. However, I got a little too high in turn 2 and lost all of my momentum and fell back to eventually finish in the 3rd spot.

We’ll be taking the next weekend off of racing and returning on September 21st to Outagamie Speedway for the first time this year for their Fall Brawl Special. We will then conclude our 2019 season by running both nights of the Creek Classic at 141 Speedway on September 27th and 28th.
