After a solid 3rd place finish on opening night at Luxemburg Speedway, we were back hoping to hit the setup and be in position for another podium finish this past Friday night.
I started 6th in the heat race and struggled to make a run to try to make an invert spot. I looked for an opening between Tailar Ness and Sawyer Haese, and finally was able to get a run on Ness to finish in the 4th spot.
I would start 9th in the feature and looked to make the inside lane work in the early going. After a few laps, I moved up to the middle groove to see if I could pass a few cars. I was able to make passes all the way to 5th, when a caution flag flew with about 7 laps remaining.
Restarting on the outside, I battled with Ryan LeMieux for the 4th spot, eventually overtaking him and setting my sights on 3rd place. By that time, I could tell my tires were used up, so I played it safe and hung on to finish in 4th.
After post-race tech inspections, the 2nd place finisher was disqualified for a motor infraction, bumping us up officially to a 3rd place finish.
On Sunday, we hauled up to Sturgeon Bay to take part in The Hill Raceway’s afternoon race. I would have been starting 10th in the feature, however the dust had gotten so bad that the track was forced to cancel the features for the safety of the drivers.
We’ll be back in action on Friday night at Luxemburg, with Outagamie Speedway off on Sunday, it will likely be our only night of racing for the week.
