After planning to race on Friday and Sunday this past weekend, our plans changed to just a single night of racing on Friday night at Luxemburg Speedway.
Instead of lining up with our point averages, it was decided to use the draw/redraw format. I drew a high number for the heat race, but a very low number for the feature, so finishing well in the heat race was a priority.
Starting 7th in the heat, I cruised along around the infield tires to go all the way up to the 2nd spot. Not chancing a wreck, I just decided to stay behind the leader and ride out a finish. At the line I was nipped to finish in 3rd, but finishing anywhere in the top 5 secured my feature starting position.
I would start on the outside pole for the feature alongside Brian Bruechert. Bruechert got the jump to the lead, and I made my way to the bottom of the track after Andy Ratajczak zipped past me. Ratajczak and I would run side by side for multiple laps, and eventually I had the 2nd spot all to my own.
Midway through the race, a caution flag flew for debris. When our race resumed, Ratajczak and I continued to battle for 2nd, with Ratajczak getting past and gaining ground on Bruechert. When the checkers flew, it was Ratajczak picking up the win, with Bruechert and myself just behind.
With Luxemburg Speedway not running sport mods this week, the plan is to head to Seymour Speedway on Sunday night with the old car, where my dad will be piloting the car. I will be taking the weekend off from racing and returning to the track on July 12th at Luxemburg.
