Rain Washes Away Championship Nights; Budzo Racing Secures Title at Thunderhill Raceway

The weather forecasts last week called for rain on both Friday and Saturday in northeast Wisconsin, and that’s exactly what we received.

We never made it to the track on Friday night at Luxemburg Speedway. We were 23 points back of Andy Kleczka in the standings, and that would be the final tally with the rainout. Though we were unable to capture a feature win at Luxemburg in 2014, we had a good year with 4 top-5 finishes. Two of those top-5 finishes were 2nd place honors, which is where we wound up in the final standings for the 2nd year in a row.

On Saturday night, scattered thunderstorms managed to stay clear enough of Thunderhill Raceway for us to start the night of racing off as scheduled.

After a pair of street stock heats, the rain showers began to fall on the sportmod heat races. We were under a rain delay, as we packed the track back into a raceable condition. I started last (7th) in my heat race, needing to finish 5th or better to secure my invert position for the feature. On the final lap, I was able to get a run on the inside of Jarred VanLaanen, overtaking him to finish 5th.

Unfortunately, heavier rain showers rolled in shortly after our race concluded. The track could not be saved, forcing cancellation of the remainder of the events for the night.

With that, we were declared the 2014 IMCA northern sportmod track champion at Thunderhill! We finished the season with 3 feature wins and 12 top-5 finishes at the track. Our only finish outside of the top-5 all season was a 6th place finish in mid-July.

A big “thanks” to everyone who contributed to our success over our 5 years of racing in the sportmod division. Without your support over the years, our success in 2014 wouldn’t have been possible.

Also, we would like to give “thanks” to our 2014 sponsors: budzodesigns.com, XSAN, Demon Race Engines, Vlies Custom Race Car Bodies, Kroll Racing Fabrication, Gnome Games, Tri-County Heating, Ultrashield Race Products, Jerovetz Motorsports Shock Service, Swift Springs, Nick’s Carquest, Right Foot Performance Products, Bassett Racing Wheel, WI Dirt Racin and 1330 Wraps. We hope to have you all on board with us for the 2015 season!

Our plan for the rest of the year is to run only on September 26th at Luxemburg Speedway, with the IRA sprint cars headlining the show.
