Pair of Top 5 Finishes at Luxemburg & Outagamie

This past week/weekend we ended up racing 3 nights, starting first at 141 Speedway on Wednesday night for the 10^th annual Clash at the Creek special. The show utilized the draw/redraw format and my heat race draw put us outside of row 2.

On the first lap, I got up into the greasy part of the track and did all I could to avoid hitting the concrete wall in turn 3. I ended up scraping the wall with my rear bumper and took a shot to the front bumper, bouncing off Vince Engebregtsen’s right rear wheel. Luckily, the damage I sustained did not hinder my car and I was able to continue on to finish 4^th.

Starting 13^th in the feature, I quickly realized that we were not going to advance through the pack. The car skated off the corners and we couldn’t find any traction throughout the race. I ended up finishing the race in 12^th, however a disqualification bumped us up to an 11^th place finish.

On Friday night we returned to our home track of Luxemburg Speedway, looking to stay atop the point standings. I started 7^th in the heat race and was running 6^th when I had to avoid a spinning car. I was able to get by without a scratch and restarted in the 5^th position. From there, I got around a couple of cars on the outside to end up finishing 2^nd.

In the feature, I started in the 7^th spot and fought my way through the middle of the track to get to 5^th. I dropped to the bottom of the racetrack to take away the 4^th spot from Teagan Wudstrack and started chasing Randy LeMieux Jr. for 3^rd. We battled side by side for the remainder of the feature, finally getting enough traction off the bottom to get by on the final lap to finish 3^rd.

With no racing at Luxemburg this coming Friday, we decided to end our weekend by taking a trip west to Outagamie Speedway in Seymour on Sunday night. I started 4^th in the heat race, and after going a bit too high into turn 3 on the opening lap, I was able to correct things and ended up finishing in 3^rd.

Our heat race finish put us in the 10^th starting position for the feature. I was able to work my way up towards the top 5 using the outside and middle lanes, then dropped down to the bottom to get up to 4^th. I chose to stay on the bottom of the track which proved to be a mistake, as Lucas Lamberies went by around the outside with 2 laps remaining. I tried to regain 4^th on the outside but ran out of laps. We would have finished in 5^th, but the leader suffered mechanical issues and dropped out of the race on the final lap, so we ended up finishing in the 4^th spot in the end.

So far in 2018 we have recorded 7 top-5 finishes in 9 nights of racing. We’re very happy with some of the changes we’ve made to the car in the past week, hoping that we’ll find ourselves in victory lane soon!
