This past weekend we were able to put together another pair of solid outings at Luxemburg Speedway and 141 Speedway as we head into the final points week of the 2019 race season.
On Friday at Luxemburg, we finished 2nd in the heat race and would start in the 3rd position for the feature. We took the early lead, but knew the track was starting to go away and that caused the car to get a little looser and lose traction about midway through the feature. Our lead was wiped away by a pair of cautions, and we were unable to fend off Vince Engebregtsen in the final laps, finishing in 2nd place.
On Saturday at 141, we got through the heat race after a couple of close calls gave us just a little bit of body damage to the frontend and driver side. We started in the 6th spot and ended up finishing 3rd to make the invert for the feature.
Starting 8th in the feature, I stayed on the outside of the track and made my way into the top 5 early in the race. I was able to get past Gabe Zellner and Seth Hoeffner to get up to the 3rd spot with a few laps remaining, as the point leaders gave chase underneath. A caution flag flew after contact between those cars, setting us up on the bottom of the track for a restart with 2 laps remaining. I wasn’t able to get a good run on Todd Wiese for the lead, but I was able to just edge Tim Sheppard at the checkers to snag the runner up position.
Heading into this weekend, we have a 17 point lead at the Hill Raceway as we look to secure our 2nd ever track championship. Our first track championship was at the same track in 2014. We will be there on Saturday night and also returning to Luxemburg Speedway the night before to wrap up the regular season there as well. We currently sit in 3rd points at Luxemburg after missing one night in early June.
