Heat Race Win, 3rd Place Feature Finish on Opening Night at Luxemburg Speedway

As we all know, Mother Nature was not kind to the state of Wisconsin in the month of May, pushing the season opener at Luxemburg Speedway all the way to June 1^st. Although it was a chilly night, the track was in great shape as we began our chase for the elusive track championship.

With it being opening night, a draw/re-draw format was used for the night. My heat race draw put me on the pole of the 2^nd heat race of 3, with the top 4 finishers re-drawing for position in the feature. I quickly took the lead in my heat race and went on to win the race over Cody Schroeder by a few car lengths.

I ended up re-drawing the 7^th starting position for the feature, and quickly shot up into the 5^th position in a few laps. Sawyer Haese drifted up a little too far on the frontstretch while running in 4^th, hitting the wall and forcing him out of competition for the night. That put us in the 4^th position after a caution flag flew shortly thereafter. From there, I went down to the inside of the track and battled Randy LeMieux Jr. for the 3^rd position for several laps.

Finally, I was able to secure the 3^rd spot, and started to close the gap on Schroeder for 2^nd. We came upon lapped traffic in the late stages of the race, forcing me to change my line and run through the middle of the track. A caution flag flew on the final lap, locking us into our positions and ending the feature in 3^rd place.

Our start to the 2018 season continues to be successful, and we hope that next weekend brings more of the same. We will be running on Friday night at Luxemburg and on Sunday afternoon at The Hill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay.
