After our trip to Mississippi Thunder Speedway ended a lot sooner than expected, we were able to have the engine repaired and ready for one final run at Luxemburg Speedway’s Fall Classic special this past Friday & Saturday.
The luck of the draw put me on the outside pole for my qualifying heat race on Friday night, and from the drop of the green I took the lead over polesitter Russel Franks. I ran the entire race around the top half of the racetrack, leading all 10 laps en route to my 4th heat race win of the 2012 season.
Winning the heat race on Friday night meant we were done racing until Saturday night’s feature, and the track was all used up well before we started our race. Unfortunately for us, the shock we normally use on the left rear of the car for the feature had issues, so we had to make do with a replacement. I started 5th on the grid, and slowly fell back in the field over the course of the race.
A lone caution flag flew with 4 laps remaining, and restarting in 13th I was able to split the row ahead of me to slip back into 11th place on the white flag lap. That would be the position I would finish in, and marks the end of the 2012 season for our team.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll begin work on the 2008 Harris car for the 2013 season.
