This week we had a total of 4 races scheduled, starting the week off on Monday night at Plymouth running with the World of Outlaws Late Models. We then planned to run Thursday night at The Hill Raceway during the Door County Fair, Friday night at Luxemburg Speedway and ending the weekend at 141 Speedway on Saturday.
On Monday night, we started 7th in the heat race at Plymouth and ran all the way up to a 2nd place finish. The redraw put us 3rd on the starting grid for the feature, and I tried to shoot to the outside to grab the lead on the first lap. The attempt was unsuccessful, and I fell back into the 6th spot. The race remained single file around the bottom for the most part, and I got under a car for 5th at the end, but ran over the infield tire coming out of turn 4 to negate my advancement.
On Thursday, we started 8th in the heat race at The Hill and quickly ran up to the 3rd position before a caution flag flew. I got into 2nd on the restart and came up just short of picking up the win at the finish. In the feature, I started in the 9th spot and ran the bottom lane to make my way up to 6th before the first caution flag flew. I then continued on the bottom and ran up to the 2nd spot and began chase of Aaron Butterbrodt for the lead. Another caution flag flew, and I chose the outside line for the restart. We ran side by side for the final 10 laps of the feature, and I got a good run off of turn 2 with 2 laps remaining to grab the lead and hang on for the feature win.
On Friday at Luxemburg, a slew of new drivers were in attendance so we ended up starting on the outside pole for our heat race. I took the lead from the green flag and went on to win the heat race, our 5th heat race win of the year. In the feature, I started 3rd and ran in 3rd for the majority of the feature until a late caution flag flew and I was able to get past Troy DeGrave to get into the runner up spot and finish there behind Vince Engebregtsen.
We made the trip to 141 to close out the weekend, but unfortunately Mother Nature opened up the skies and a monsoon of rain forced cancellation of the program. We’ll be back out at Luxemburg next Friday night and returning to 141 on Saturday night before running the inaugural Captain of the Creek the week after.
