Heading into the weekend, we had 22 top-5 feature finishes in the Madman chassis from the beginning of the 2018 season. Despite all of those finishes in the top-5, we had yet to put the car in the winner’s circle. That changed on Saturday night, as we captured our first feature win of the 2019 season in our first ever trip to the Plymouth Dirt Track.
On Friday night, we went to Luxemburg Speedway and had to dodge raindrops on and off all night to get our show in. A total of only 11 sportmods had signed in for the night due to concerns over the weather forecast. I started 8th in the feature and struggled to get any momentum as the track conditions coupled with rain showers during our race made it difficult to maneuver for position.
Luckily, a caution came out and we were able to get a good restart and jump into the top 5 with a few laps remaining. Another caution flew with 2 laps to go, and I made a move on the final restart to end up finishing in 4th.
On Saturday we had planned to race at 141 Speedway, but rain overnight and in the morning forced them to cancel the races. We chose to make the trip further south to Plymouth for the first time ever and see if we could put together another solid finish.
I drew a 9 for the heat race, which put me inside of row 2 for the heat race. I jumped to the lead early on and never looked back to pick up the win.
The passing points system put us on the outside of the front row for the feature alongside Bill Edler. We shot from our starting positions and into battle for the entirety of the race. I was able to get to the inside and had a little help from a lapped car to grab the lead midway through the race. A few caution flags flew, but this time I was able to hold him off en route to the feature win.
We will not be racing this coming weekend as I will be out of the state. We’ll be back in action next weekend, likely at Luxemburg Speedway and 141 Speedway. The following week we will be racing at 141 during the week for the Clash at the Creek on the 19th and 20th.
