Another Top-10 Finish at Luxemburg Speedway for Budzo Racing

This past Friday night, we made our weekly visit to our hometown track of Luxemburg Speedway, hoping to keep our string of good finishes going.

I was slated to start on the outside pole of the heat race, but the polesitter elected to start at the rear of the field, moving me to the inside lane. The car was a tad loose for the track conditions, as dry spots were already showing up early on in the night. I was able to get just enough ahead of Troy DeGrave to slide up to the outside lane, and took the race lead.

I thought I was on my way to another heat race victory, but I slipped up a tad on the final lap, and Eric Mahlik was able to get by on the final corner, handing me a 2nd place finish.

For the feature, again I would have the opportunity to set the pace as the polesitter alongside Dennis Miesler. Our first start was great for me, as I got the jump on Miesler and took the advantage through turns 1 & 2. However, a wreck behind us brought out the yellow flag, and we would restart the race.

Miesler would get the better start this time, and I battled back early on to get underneath him for the lead. Staying on the bottom, it became clear a little too late for me that the outside line was getting more momentum through the corners. The race would go without another caution, and I would finish in 9th place for the 2nd week in a row at Luxemburg.

On Sunday, we made the trip back to Seymour Speedway. Only 14 sportmods signed in for racing at the track, so there was no pressure to fight for a transfer spot in the heat race. I started on the pole, but the track was so slimy on the bottom that all of us had no traction coming to the green. The outside lane took advantage, and I had to move up behind them to settle in for a 4thplace finish.

That set me up with the outside pole for the feature, but unfortunately I forgot to put the cap back on the fuel cell, so I had to make a trip down pit lane before the race even started. I came back out for the green flag, but the pack was already in turn 2 as I was coming off the track entrance.

I did have a pretty good run, and caught the back of the field at the end of the race. I wish a caution flag had flown early on, as it would have been interesting to see if I could have moved through the field given the opportunity. I don’t know what my official finish was, but it must have been either 12th or 13th.

Next week we’ll be back at Luxemburg Speedway on Friday night, and our current plans have us back at Seymour Speedway for their Summer Holiday Classic special.
