Our original plan for the weekend was to race at Luxemburg Speedway on Friday night, but two rounds of rain washed out the night’s program. Unfortunately, it was also Gnome Games night at the track, so we’re hoping that will get rescheduled later in the season.
With the rainout in Luxemburg, we decided to head south to give Gravity Park Speedway a try. Having never seen the track in person, it was definitely the smallest track we have ever raced on.
A total of 16 sportmods checked in, and I started 8th in my heat race. I came into turn 1 too hard on the start and got myself up into the marbles and brushed the concrete with my spoiler. After a caution flag flew, I was able to rejoin the pack and got up into the 3rd spot. I kept overdriving the entry of turn 1 and ended up losing a spot to finish 4th.
My heat race finish set me up 7th on the starting grid of the feature. It was a little tight in the early going, but I was able to get to the outside to find some open racetrack. I got up to 5th, and on the restart I made a move to the outside of the leaders, however a caution flag flew just as I was making the pass.
We went back to our starting positions, and I was able to wrestle away the 3rd spot as the white flag flew. I tried one last attempt at the outside to battle for 2nd but was unable to make up enough ground and ended up finishing 3rd.
This week, we’ll be heading to 141 Speedway on Wednesday night for the Clash at the Creek special, and then racing Friday night at Luxemburg Speedway.
