2nd Place Finish at The Hill Highlights Weekend of Racing

For the first time this summer, we doubled down on nights of racing this past weekend, heading up to The Hill Raceway on Friday night and out west to Outagamie Speedway on Sunday night.

A total of 30 sportmods checked in on Friday night at The Hill, setting up 4 heats with us starting 4th in heat #3. I was able to get around the polesitter on the 2nd lap, putting me in chase of Jarred VanLaanen for the duration of the race. We ran single file around a fast track, holding onto 2nd at the finish.

Our heat race finish set me up 8th on the grid for the night’s feature. It was a battle in the early going, trying to find my way around a pair of cars running side-by-side. I was able to split the cars and head up to the outside line before a caution flag flew. I restarted 6th and found a line of bite around the bottom of the racetrack, jumping from 6th to 3rd in 2 laps. I then worked my way past VanLaanen for the 2nd spot, and started to close the gap on the leader, but was unable to make a challenge before the checkers flew.

On Sunday at Outagamie, a total of 35 sportmods were in the house. We came in with no point average, so we started last in the final heat race. I was able to make my way up to 5th place in a few laps, but I had lost the lead pack and had to gain ground in the final few laps to try to make the feature. Once I caught the pack, I went to the inside line and followed Dennis Miesler to the front, going from 5th to 2nd on the final lap to make the feature.

Starting 12th in the feature, I had to slam on the brakes on the opening lap to avoid contact with a few cars, setting me back a few spots and having to give chase to the lead pack yet again. I was able to catch the top-10 pack and made my way up to the 8th position. I went to the outside to try to get up to 6th, but again had to slow up to avoid a car that spun right in front of me in turn #2. Once again, I had to make up ground, but it was too little too late and I ended up finishing 8th at the line.

Overall, we were happy with how the car responded to our setup adjustments, giving us confidence going into opening night at Luxemburg Speedway on June 1st.
