A week after picking up our 5th feature win of the season, and 2nd feature win of the year at The Hill Raceway, we had Luxemburg Speedway and 141 Speedway on our schedule this past weekend before prepping for the big $5,000-to-win IMCA northern sportmod special at 141 this coming week.
On Friday at Luxemburg, we had a total of 17 sportmods check in for the night. In the heat race, I started in the 5th spot and advanced 1 position to finish in 4th. That would line us up 6th on the starting grid for the feature. After a few laps, I got into the 5th spot before the first caution flag flew. On the ensuing restart, I jumped into the top 3 before another caution flag came out. On that restart, I jumped to the outside of Evan Beattie to grab the lead with Sawyer Haese in tow. After another caution, I opened up a big lead on the field en route to our 6th feature win of the season.
On Saturday at 141, 41 sportmods checked in to do battle in preparation for the Captain of the Creek special. We started 7th in our heat race, and made a few moves to get into a transfer spot midway through the race. After a caution flag flew, we were able to wrestle the 2nd spot away at the finish from Phil Mott. With the point leaders all having to come through the semi-feature, we were pushed back to the 12th starting spot in the feature. An opening lap melee at the front of the field would cause 5 cars that started on the outside row to head to the pits, shuffling us up to the 3rd row on the ensuing restart. I quickly jumped up to the 3rd spot by going through the middle of the track, then down to the bottom groove to pass for 2nd and challenge Seth Hoeffner for the lead. I took the lead midway through the feature, but lost it after a few laps as Travis Hansen went around on the outside for the win. We ended up with a very solid 2nd place finish on the night.
This week we will have a lot of racing on our hands as we will be at 141 for the Captain of the Creek sportmod special on Wednesday and Thursday, then returning to Luxemburg Speedway on Friday and The Hill Raceway on Saturday.
