16th to 9th at Luxemburg Speedway for Budzo Racing

Coming into this past Friday night, we were in a tie for 2nd place in points at Luxemburg Speedway with Greg Potts, 17 points back of Josh Long for the lead.

A total of 23 sportmods would check in for the night, spreading out across 4 heat races. I was in the 4th heat, starting last (5th) on the grid. A very heavy track made passing difficult, as I was only able to get to up to 4th place when the white flag flew. A last ditch effort to get to 3rd came up just short, and finishing 4th in the heat race meant missing the invert for the feature.

I would start 16th on the grid for the night’s feature, making it a tougher road than normal to get toward the front of the pack. I made my way past several cars in the early segment of the race, and found myself inside the top 10 after our only caution flag flew. On the restart, I tried going to the outside of the track to break into the top 7, but was almost pushed off the racing surface in turn 2.

I lost several positions trying to get back up to speed, and the holes to pass closed up rather quickly. I had to go back down to the low groove of the track to make a few passes back up to the 10th position. I went to the outside of Troy DeGrave with 2 laps to remaining, and was able to make the pass to finish the race in 9th place.

With that finish, we should now be in 3rd place in points, 2 points back of Potts for the 2nd spot. We’ll be back in action next Friday night at Luxemburg Speedway, hoping to put the car back in the top 5. Only 3 points nights are left at the speedway.
