After several weeks of rainouts in northeast Wisconsin, we were finally granted some nice weather this past weekend to kick off the 2018 season.
We made the trek to the Door County peninsula to The Hill Raceway on Friday night, finally getting our season underway.
With it being opening night, a draw/re-draw format was in effect. I drew very well for the heat race, setting up on the pole for the 3rd heat. On the start, I took the early lead from Conor Iverson and never looked back, picking up the win by over a straightaway.
Our luck for starting position in the feature was not as lucky, as I picked the 11th best re-draw number out of 15. Coming from the 6th row, it took patience to pick off a car every few laps, getting up to the 7th position with a few laps remaining. With 2 laps to go, I slid my way into the 6th spot, and was able to challenge for 5th at the checkers. I made my move to the inside of Iverson in the final corner, beating him by half a car length to secure a 5th place finish.
We will be back in action this Friday night at The Hill, looking to improve upon our results from opening night. We hope to be in midseason form by Luxemburg Speedway’s opener on June 1st.
